Sports TV brought viewers a Bangladesh side choosing to bat, an Afghanistan captain who wanted the same opportunity, and an opening spell that quickly made the toss feel less important.

At Sharjah, Yamin Ahmadzai removed Tanzid Hasan with an edge to wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz, then bowled Soumya Sarkar with his very next delivery. Bangladesh's attempt to build an innings had become a repair job for Saif Hassan and Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The broadcast had drawn more than 1.5 million views in seven hours, an exceptional start compared with Sports TV's usual audience for live streams and long videos. This was a full match broadcast, with the toss, team selections and pitch report before the opening ball, rather than a short highlights package.

There was something at stake beyond the immediate contest. Afghanistan already had a place in the tri-series final, while Bangladesh and Zimbabwe's qualification possibilities occupied the pre-match panel. Bangladesh also handed Aliss Al Islam his ODI debut and brought Mehidy Hasan Miraz back into the lineup.

Before play, Taskin Ahmed offered a simple explanation of a bowler's task: "Process is the same, but as a bowler you have to find the right length." Ahmadzai's consecutive breakthroughs soon gave that discussion a concrete counterpart on the field.
