A SpaceX share for every American child, Elon Musk says

Forbes' Short sets the pledge against Anthropic's public benefit fund and notes that nobody yet knows who qualifies or how the stock would arrive.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 55,101 views a day, 34 times a normal first day on this channel (1,644).

Elon Musk Says He’ll Give Every Child In America One SpaceX Share Next YearElon Musk Says He’ll Give Every Child In America One SpaceX Share Next Year

How do you hand a piece of a private rocket company to tens of millions of children? Elon Musk has not said. His post on X promises one SpaceX share for every child in America next year and calls it the "first of many." As Forbes' report points out, it says nothing about eligibility, distribution or how the shares would be transferred.

The report reads one clue into his wording: the shares would seem to come from Musk's own holdings rather than from the company.

The timing matters too. Musk made the pledge shortly after criticizing Anthropic, which plans to put 5% of its shares into a public benefit fund. His advice to the AI company was blunt: "I recommend giving the shares directly to the public." Now he says he will do something similar himself, with SpaceX, which the description calls an aerospace and AI company.

There is a precedent close to home. SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell has already contributed shares to Trump accounts for children, and the report notes that new Treasury Department rules require stock donated to those accounts to be held for five years. Whether Musk's gift would go through the same accounts is one of the details still missing.

The Short drew about 32,000 views in its first ten hours. That is far above Forbes' usual first day for Shorts, and the comments came in even faster than the views. The question asked most often is why the gift would go only to children and not to adults. Many others raise taxes, timing and data privacy. A second upload under the identical title has drawn a much smaller audience.
