Heatless curls past five million: Grace May's 'I woke up like this'

Thirteen uploads in seven days, from fall nails to a backhanded-compliment skit, brought about 9,000 new subscribers.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

A new Short from Grace May usually opens with a few tens of thousands of views. "I woke up like this 🙄" took more than 1.4 million on its first day, and five days in it has passed five million, still gathering views faster than anything else on the channel.

The idea is simple and old: curl the hair overnight, no heat, unpin it in the morning and flip it down. The comments read like a salon queue. Many viewers want to know which oil she smoothed through after taking the curlers out, others with naturally wavy hair say they are grateful to skip the whole routine, and a few with curls admit they spend their mornings straightening them.

It was one of thirteen uploads in a busy week. The nail question "Was it WORTH THE PRICE?" went past a million, and "Which life are you?", her acne-or-clear-skin Short, is three days old and still moving briskly. The skincare thread runs through the shelf, fitting for a channel whose about text describes "a girl going through hormonal crisis." A skit about backhanded compliments and a set of brown fall nails filled out the rest.

The channel picked up about 9,000 subscribers and well over ten million views in seven days, the second-biggest week among the vlog channels nearest its size. Only Dylan Novak, whose dog-and-dance Shorts are having an enormous run, gathered more.

  • It looks so beautiful!!! I just know I'd wake up with a migraine if I tried it, but damn!! Might be worth trying it

  • I'm jealous of y'all with wavy hair! I know some would complain because its between straight and curly...but personally, its my dream hair. I have some wave at the ends of my long hair but it only comes out after 2 days of not washing plus keeping it in a bun. I think I wanna try this hair routine once I get money 😭
