HD Guy takes military cost comparisons to the meat counter
Pounds of ribeye join gold bars and Gucci bags as measuring sticks, alongside a sharp jump in viewing across the channel.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 2,117,084 views a day, 5 times a normal day (427,497).
A pound of Angus Choice ribeye costs roughly $22 at the grocery stores cited by HD Guy. On a channel devoted to making enormous costs easier to picture, that makes dinner another way to size up military spending.
"Cost in Pounds of Ribeye Steak" is the latest addition to that peculiar shopping list. Its description cites Army and Navy procurement documents alongside the USDA, bringing the meat counter into the same comparison as military hardware.
HD Guy is drawing about 2.1 million views a day across the channel, roughly five times its usual pace. That is a channel-wide jump, not the audience for the ribeye upload alone.
Since the gold-bar comparison we covered earlier, the unit of measurement has become considerably more perishable. It also follows "Cost in Units of Tomahawk Steaks," which used a steakhouse menu price rather than grocery-store beef. A Gucci Marmont shoulder bag supplies another recent yardstick.
The channel's biggest Shorts show how far this cost-conversion idea stretches: "US Navy Cost to Fire Different Weapons" leads that list, followed by "Cost in Units of RTX 5090." Ribeye is the newest purchase on a very unusual receipt.
