Eddie Izzard's fluent French is the starting point of Iain Robertson's account of leaving Oasis. What began as a Paris press trip, he tells Andrew Gold, ended with punches in the street and calls to management to resign.
The interview on The Daily Heretic drew nearly 100,000 views in 18 hours, putting it well ahead of the channel's usual start for regular videos. Its projected first-day audience is more than seven times the usual level.
Robertson recalls Gallagher and Izzard being interviewed side by side at a nightclub, with Izzard's French dominating the exchange. In his telling, Gallagher became angry, overturned the interview table and left. Robertson followed him to another bar to calm him down.
The confrontation he describes came afterward. During an argument on the drive back, Robertson says Gallagher jumped from the moving car and he followed. On the street, he says Gallagher punched him twice in the face; Robertson then lifted the singer and threw him into a bus stop shelter.
Gallagher told him he was fired, Robertson recalls. Robertson subsequently called management and Noel Gallagher to submit his resignation, turning the Paris incident into the end of his time working with the band.
