Out comes the engine. Matt takes his bargain Rolls-Royce Phantom to The Car Edition hoping to understand its troubles, and ends up watching the engine and gearbox descend from the car together.
The High Peak Autos host is a used-car dealer near Manchester, accustomed to finding the catch in a cheap luxury purchase. This one has drawn roughly 377,000 views in seventeen hours, far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience.
At the workshop, Owen explains that exhaust gas and excessive pressure in the cooling system point to failed head gaskets or cracked engine components. Replacing the gaskets alone would require removing the engine. The diagnosis is still open, but none of those possibilities makes for a small job.
There is a brief reprieve underneath: the undercarriage shows little rust and no leaks. Then lead mechanic Gytis gets deeper into the engine and finds thick sludge. He describes years of oil buildup; a seized valve-timing solenoid eventually needs a welded-on nut and a slide hammer to pull it free.
"Do you ever see something and then instantly regret it? That's me right now," Matt says as the dismantling continues. By his closing assessment, a full rebuild or replacement engine looks likely.
The video includes a sponsored vehicle-history-check segment. Its main business, though, is the workshop teardown, and the unusually busy comments keep returning to Gytis's skill, patience and good humor. Several viewers recognize him from The Car Edition's own videos. A car bought for its apparent cheapness has given High Peak Autos an extended look at the expertise needed when the bargain goes wrong.

Gytis appearing on HPA was not something I ever thought would happen. I've probably watched all of his video appearances on their channel; he's a very impressive mechanic. He did a stellar job on a BMW 850 V12 rebuild. Great video as always Matt.
@MaxO.DSee it on YouTubeGreat mechanic .I admire how he can stay in good humor through it all .
@anthonydowling3356See it on YouTubeThe term ‘massively overspent’ seems to have taken a dramatic new meaning. Good luck with this one Matt, hopefully it is not the worse case. Excellent content for us.
