PuttView, a free green-reading app, gets Rick Shiels' putting test
H.I.T Golf's five uploads also took in new Srixon drivers, a Titleist tour truck and the Nike irons Rick calls the brand's best.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
This FREE App Reads Greens For You!
An ordinary day on H.I.T Golf, Rick Shiels' equipment channel, brings in around 140,000 views. Lately it has been running at about twice that, and five new uploads explain most of why.
The one that has gathered the most so far is not a club at all. In "This FREE App Reads Greens For You!" Rick takes PuttView onto the putting green to see whether a phone can help pick a line and hole more putts. It has passed 178,000 views. The comments read like a clubhouse debate. Several golfers worry about slow play and picture rounds stretching by an hour or more. Others see it as a practice tool for warming up or getting their eye back in spring. A few with famously sloping home greens want to know how it copes with double breaks, and one suggests handing it to Ben and Guy for a nine-hole match, one putting with the app and one without.
The Takomo putter test, which we covered here when it went up, is now the video gathering views fastest, well past 150,000 in under two days. Further down the shelf, "These are the BEST irons Nike made..." looks back at the years when Nike still made golf clubs. There is also a first look at Srixon's new drivers and a trip inside the Titleist tour truck.
Among the sports channels nearest its size, only TNT Sports Cycling and the Dern Brothers drew more views over the week. Golf Channel and Alex Elliott had a quieter one. Rick's review channel, meanwhile, added about a thousand subscribers.
