Counted cigarettes and nonchalant horror: inside karu's anime library

Nearly 600,000 views landed in one day on a channel built around deadpan anime experiments, though its newest upload played little part.

Channel: karu Story of October 9, 2026Trari Newsroom

Why this story? The whole channel is running at 589,690 views a day, 22 times a normal day (26,351).

A usual day on karu's channel brings in something like 26,000 views. This one brought close to 590,000. That is more in a single day than "I Counted EVERY Cigarette in This Smoking Anime" has gathered since it went up in early September, and that video is one of the channel's strongest of the season. The subscriber count barely moved, with about a thousand new ones over the week.

It is not clear what set it off, but it was not the newest upload. That video looks at Kurumi Tokisaki, the gun-toting Spirit from Date A Live, arriving in the action game Punishing: Gray Raven as part of a crossover, and it is still counting its views in the thousands. The rush came from somewhere else on the shelf.

That shelf runs on odd premises. Over the summer karu sat through "the scariest horror anime" twice: once to prove a nonchalant streak, once to see how predictable it is. Later came a full tally of the cigarettes in a series about smoking. The descriptions share a running joke, a single deadpan line naming a different show as "my favorite anime" each time. It was Higurashi one month, Tales of Wedding Rings the next, then Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You alongside Chainsmoker Cat.

Maybe a newcomer started at one of those videos and kept clicking? The channel's about text promises nothing more than "expanding my anime library," and the library is there for anyone who wants it.
