A first profit, and a big one. SpaceX's second earnings report as a public company shows net income of $4.4 billion, more than double what Wall Street expected, on revenue that beat estimates across space, connectivity and AI. About half of that revenue now comes from AI.
Ross Gerber, co-founder and CEO of Gerber Kawasaki and a SpaceX shareholder, is less interested in the quarter than in what comes next. "This is the good news part of Elon's empire, and we'll see the bad news part tomorrow," he tells Bloomberg Television, pointing to Tesla's report the following day. His prediction: "I wouldn't be surprised if they buy Tesla any day now."
He pictures it as an all-stock deal at around $420 a share, arguing that investors want "one clear investment" in Musk's ventures. When the anchor suggests SpaceX is no longer really a rocket company, Gerber agrees that "it is an AI company now." He calls the overlap between xAI, Tesla and SpaceX "a mess" that a merger would clean up, and imagines a Starlink-powered phone that could take on Apple. The merger and the phone are both his ideas, not announcements.
The interview drew more than 100,000 views in its first seven hours, and its comment section filled far faster than a usual first day for the channel. Much of the talk is about the $420 figure, whether shareholders would ever accept it, and Gerber's own past criticism of Tesla.
The channel's other fast starter of the day told the flip side of the AI story: "Wall Street's AI Debt Fears Deepen," with Citi's Tyler Radke on CoreWeave's borrowing.
