London steak, Arctic catch: Mark Wiens takes two dinner routes
The Quality Chop House's duck-fat potatoes share the week with catch-your-own lunch in Nuuk Fjord.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Is This London's Best Steak? 🥩
Mark Wiens's Greenland adventure had been online for less than a day, and already hundreds of thousands of viewers had joined the trip. Lunch comes with a condition: first, catch it.
"Food is WILD on the World's Biggest Island!!" takes him by boat through Nuuk Fjord, fishing for redfish and cod before bringing the catch to Qooqqut Nuan, a summer-only restaurant reached by water. The itinerary includes glacier ice for drinking water, then a beach barbecue back in Nuuk with whale, seal and Arctic ingredients cooked on hot rocks. It is a substantial change of setting from the week's other dinner reservation.
That would be The Quality Chop House in Farringdon, where "Is This London's Best Steak? 🥩" features a dry-aged Hereford bone-in ribeye. Wiens calls it the best steak he ate in London, but the duck-fat confit potatoes have their own constituency in the comments. Viewers discuss the potato squares, the cast-iron ribeye preparation and their preferred beef breeds. Several also pick up on his eating the chili stalks.
The London upload is approaching a million views and carries the most daily momentum, followed by Greenland. An older whole-lamb meal in Afghanistan remains active too: its shorwa cooks over fire in a pot sealed with dough, a very different preparation from either the steakhouse or the fjord-side lunch.
Across the channel, daily viewing is roughly double its usual pace, and the week added about 100,000 subscribers. It was a substantial viewing week in this food-channel neighborhood, with Bobby Parrish also busy and Max the Meat Guy drawing an especially large weekly audience. For Wiens, the new uploads offer two distinct pleasures: a carefully chosen restaurant meal and a lunch whose ingredients start on the fishing line.
