Eärnur rode into Minas Morgul, and Yoystan asks what happened next
The Tolkien lore channel's one new video takes up the last King of Gondor, who accepted the Witch-king's challenge and was never seen again.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
What Did the Witch-king Do to the Final King of Gondor? (Eärnur) - Lore Breakdown & Theories
Yoystan, the voice behind Men of the West, spent his week on one of the darker loose ends in Tolkien's appendices. King Eärnur, the last King of Gondor, accepted the Witch-king's challenge to single combat, rode with a small escort to the gates of Minas Morgul, and vanished. The new video, "What Did the Witch-king Do to the Final King of Gondor? (Eärnur) - Lore Breakdown & Theories," asks what came after.
The gap is real. Tolkien never says Eärnur died, only that he was not seen again, and his disappearance ended Gondor's line of kings. For almost a thousand years the Stewards ruled in their place, until Aragorn came to claim the throne. That empty space is just what a lore channel lives on, and the comments filled it quickly. Several viewers think a Morgul blade turned the king into a lesser wraith. Others suspect he was handed to Sauron himself. One points out that Eärnur and the Witch-king fell the same way, through pride and a prophecy each of them ignored.
It was the only upload of the week, and it is now the busiest thing on the shelf, ahead of the earlier essay asking why The Lord of the Rings is not more popular. The channel moved at about its usual pace and its subscriber count held steady. Among the book channels nearest it in size, Audible had a week several times bigger than normal, and Nerd of the Rings stayed the giant of the Tolkien corner.

What viewers say
The irony that they mirror one another in that pride and ignoring the same prophecy led to both their downfalls
@LifeInTheFourthAgeSee it on YouTubeHe would have pierced him with a Morgul blade.
@MartinCHorowitzSee it on YouTubeLore like this is always awesome. On one hand, I'll wrack my brain about it, thinking about how things would go... or this, or that. On the other hand, it's awesome getting to hear other peoples thoughts on it and at the end of the day, not ever knowing.

Yeah. When I delved into YouTube videos that explained deeper LOTR lore, and the subject of this king, I did initially think ‘It sounds like he rode off thinking he could beat a supernaturally powerful bloke, and he ended up losing’. The Appendices might not STATE that he died, but the implication is grim and enough.
@NoahBramhall-v1sSee it on YouTubeI suspect in the end Eärnur was turned over to Sauron. Sauron would certainly want to get his hands on the king of Gondor.
