Three pedals, software shifts: MotorTrend meets Ferrari's 12Cilindri Manuale

The first drive joins an S-Class award announcement and a week heavy on Tesla Roadster engineering.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

A gated shifter and three pedals sound like familiar Ferrari territory. MotorTrend's new 12Cilindri Manuale first drive adds a complication: servos and software handle the gear changes, rather than a traditional mechanical setup. That distinction gives "2027 Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale First Drive: Authentic in Its Own Way" something more interesting to explore than nostalgia alone.

Posted just hours ago, it is already the channel's most active video by daily views. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class award announcement and "Tesla Roadster POV" are the next busiest, giving fresh uploads the momentum after last week's Roadster reveal.

Tesla nevertheless accounts for the week's most-watched release. Ed Loh's engineering walkaround with Lars Moravy has reached about 334,000 views. Their discussion moves from the Bond Lotus submarine's design influence to fan-generated downforce, battery cooling and cold-gas thrusters. Viewers keep returning to Moravy's carefully placed "theoretically" when discussing upside-down driving; others pick apart the engineering details or note the conversation's unpolished ambient sound. A separate walkaround with designer Franz von Holzhausen supplies the cockpit and styling perspective.

Across fifteen uploads, MotorTrend also made room for Kristen Lee to introduce its Car of the Year, the S-Class, which the publication says has won the award for the first time.

The subscriber count stayed unchanged, while daily viewing is now nearly three times its usual level. Donut is also enjoying elevated daily viewing among nearby motoring channels; HeavyDSparks is quieter than usual. For MotorTrend, the newest point of interest is back inside the Ferrari: an old-fashioned-looking gear gate with a very different mechanism behind it.

  • 2:02 Funny how he says "theoretically" like it's not about to actually happen the next day LOL

  • I appreciate the rawness of the conversation and the video post-production. The ambient noise adds texture and realness compared to “cleaned-up” audio with music added on top.

  • I love how none of the pre-reviewers can actually believe it will fly.
  • That makes sense, I thought of the Esprit when I saw the new Tesla Roadster. It was clear where their design inspiration came from.
  • The first Tesla to have an exhaust lmao
