Nigel Ng puts a $1,000 bounty on a fried-rice flower
Torch ginger joins shrimp, sambal belacan and crispy rice in a cooking demonstration promoting his November 3 cookbook.

I'll pay you $1,000 if you find me this ingredient
What ingredient sends Nigel Ng looking for help across America? Not a rare cut of meat or an expensive spice, but torch ginger flower, the fragrant finishing touch in his Uncle's Special Fried Rice.
In "I'll pay you $1,000 if you find me this ingredient", his only new upload of the week, Ng cooks rather than critiques. Garlic, shallots, egg and rice go into the wok before chopped flower, spring onion, shrimp and crispy rice bits. Despite its name, he explains, the flower doesn't taste like ginger. He describes the finished rice as floral and fragrant.
The demonstration also promotes his cookbook, Don't Mess Up Your Rice. But the sourcing problem gives viewers something practical to discuss: several suggest Hawaii, others supply Indonesian culinary names or describe using the flower in sambal and stir-fries. Those are viewers' leads, not confirmed suppliers. Another recurring subject is Ng's everyday speaking voice, a contrast to the Uncle Roger character many know him through.
The upload has reached nearly two million views and is currently the channel's busiest video. "Uncle Roger Review Nick DiGiovanni Korean Fried Chicken" remains active behind it, followed by the older "Chili Crisp is Boring".
Channel-wide daily viewing is more than triple its usual pace, although subscribers were unchanged over the week. Nearby food channels Joshua Weissman and Max the Meat Guy had larger weekly viewing gains. For Ng, the new contribution is unusually hands-on: the comedian whose channel introduction says he just complains is showing exactly what he wants in the wok.

Kinda nice seeing nephew Nigel cook, he's so much calmer than uncle Roger
@kerka4472See it on YouTubeSomeday I want to tell my guests, "I had to import this ingredient from a florist in Ecuador".
@giuseppelogiurato5718See it on YouTubeI'm from Indonesia, and we call it 'bunga kecombrang' (bunga = flower). We cook it for stir-fries, sambal (a traditional Indonesian chili paste), and even in fried rice like this. Its flavor is truly unique and has a floral touch, but it’s honestly that delicious. Come visit Indonesia if you want to try it, because it's very cheap here, but super expensive when exported! 😊
