Netflix Games mixes Conjuring scares with Codenames wordplay
The channel's viewing jumps sharply as its October slate moves between choice-driven horror, party-game clues and Gabby's Dollhouse.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 637,674 views a day, 10 times a normal day (61,564).
"Live or die by your choices" is the invitation Netflix Games used to introduce The Conjuring: Unspoken. Its October 6 teaser has accumulated a much larger audience than the short follow-up posted on the game's October 13 release date, which calls attention to developer Supermassive's horror credentials.
Across the channel, daily viewing has reached roughly 640,000 views, more than ten times its usual pace. That rise coincides with the horror game's arrival, though it is not clear which uploads account for the surge. These are Netflix's own promotional videos, rather than independent reviews.
There is a less frightening side to the slate, too. "Codenames: Party | Official Game Trailer | Netflix" introduces a word-association game in which players devise clues and identify their spies. Netflix notes that availability is limited to selected devices and countries.
Meanwhile, Gabby's Dollhouse offers room-by-room play and creative activities, and Netflix Puzzled's spooky-season update brings weekly challenges and reward cards. Horror is the conspicuous hook, but it is hardly the channel's only invitation to play.
