Conjunto and Draco Rosa share NPR Music's El Tiny spotlight
Two new concerts bring Max and Josh Baca's accordion-driven roots and Rosa's electric-guitar songs to the desk.

Los Texmaniacs: Tiny Desk Concert
NPR Music posted two concerts as its Latin Music Month takeover approached its October 15 finish, giving listeners very different routes into the same series. Los Texmaniacs brought Texas-Mexico border traditions; Draco Rosa brought songs from a career stretching from Menudo to the rock en español album Vagabundo.
"Los Texmaniacs: Tiny Desk Concert" is the week's most watched new upload, with roughly 210,000 views. Max Baca plays bajo sexto alongside his nephew Josh on accordion, with bass, drums and producer Felix Contreras adding güiro. The set moves through "Ay Mama," "Boom and a Bang" and "Como Te Quiero," connecting conjunto's dance-floor appeal with its cross-border musical history. Max previously played the Tiny Desk with accordion master Flaco Jimenez in 2012; Josh also learned from Jimenez.
The accordion is a recurring subject in the comments. Viewers single out Josh's playing, recall the instrument in their own family soundtracks and celebrate the band's San Antonio roots. One commenter remembers seeing Los Texmaniacs perform during a deployment to Kuwait, a personal memory that reaches well beyond this office-sized stage.
"Draco Rosa: Tiny Desk Concert" arrived later and is drawing the most views per day of any video on the channel right now. His set closes with an extended "Vagabundo," with Puerto Rican trumpeter Charlie Sepulveda joining the ensemble. For listeners who know Rosa through the Ricky Martin hits he co-wrote, including "Livin' la Vida Loca," this is a different introduction.
Earlier El Tiny guests remain active, too. Panteón Rococó's Mexican ska concert has reached about 3.7 million views, while Brazilian singer-songwriter Tim Bernardes continues drawing listeners to a solo voice-and-guitar set featuring "Poeira Cósmica" and "Eu Vou."

@mayray34See it on YouTubeThese guys came to play for us when I was deployed to Camp Virginia, Kuwait in 2005. Glad to see that they're still around!
@illiilliilliillSee it on YouTubeMy German great grandparents always listened to music with accordions while I was little, then I ended up living in SoCal for several years and then in Germany for several years so I have a soft spot in my heart for songs with accordions in them.
