Sixty-five days old and still the busiest thing on the shelf: "The Sony Vaio XR1 From 1998" is Nathan Sivewright admiring one hinge. On Sony's PCG-XR1, opening the lid lifts the back of the laptop, tilting the keyboard up toward the typist. His description admits a soft spot for 90s Japanese Vaio notebooks, and this is the one people keep opening, past 5.6 million views now.

The Adelaide-area tinkerer, whose about text promises old technology fixed up with an excessive amount of eucalyptus oil, took the week off from uploading. Two other summer shorts kept company with the Vaio: Dell's XPS M2010 from 2006, a 20-inch laptop with a detachable keyboard, and a tour of machines that came with carry handles, from the Compaq Portable III to Apple's clamshell iBook G3 and the Newton eMate 300.

Without anything fresh, the channel ran a little below its usual pace, and the subscriber count held at 330,000. Among the tech channels nearest its size, Tech.Explain and Joe Cirillo are the ones having big weeks, while EposVox, also resting, sits quieter still. Psivewri's audience, meanwhile, is still busy with a laptop from 1998.
