A magnetic plug that is also a USB-C port: Joe Cirillo on the Surface Laptop Ultra
His other upload of the week is Day Board, a calendar app modeled on train departure boards that he built with ChatGPT.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Literally every laptop should have this...
Joe Cirillo, who sums up his channel in four words ("making tech more fun"), found his fun this time in a charger. "Literally every laptop should have this..." is about Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra and its magnetic connector, which also works as an ordinary USB-C port. It went past 600,000 views in its first day and a half, far more than anything else he posted.
The comment section has turned into a small design seminar. Many viewers single out the charging brick, where the magnet sits and the cable can be flipped around, so one cord does both jobs. Others want to know whether a connector that deep will really let go when someone trips over the cord, and a few point out that MagSafe got there first. The most liked joke has nothing to do with engineering: it wonders how many people will actually buy the thing.
The second upload was a project of his own. In "I rebuilt the calendar" he builds Day Board, an app that shows the day like a train station board announcing what arrives next. The description says he made it with ChatGPT, after plenty of back and forth over the widgets, and that it is not in the App Store yet. Meanwhile an 18-day-old look at Mac Mini builds, already near a million and a half views, keeps bringing people in.
The channel ran well above its usual daily pace and passed a million views for the week, fourth among the tech review channels nearest its size. Tech.Explain had the big week in that group, while TechDweeb also ran far past its usual pace.

Putting the mag in the charging brick & flipping the cable is truly well thought out! ⚡️

@jimmysmits3938See it on YouTubeNo this is legitimately Amazing. Not taking anything away from us. Just giving us an improvement. I love all my devices charging off one cord so this is just a win win.

The ability to reverse the cable is the extra mile in designing/engineering this charger. Well done. No extra cable needed in a minimal packout
@Dandude1221See it on YouTubeMagnetic charging connectors have to be “shallow” so that it can be detached easily if yanked unintentionally. With this magnetic USB-C connector, how well does it detach? From the depth of the connector, it seems to drag the device down with it.
