"This is dumb": TechLinked takes on a White House order about AI
The tech news roundup's lead story set off a naming game in the comments, while regulars spotted a Slavoj Žižek reference and a reshuffled running order.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 321,522 views a day, 8.6 times a normal first day on this channel (37,199).
This is dumb
A day after it went up, "This is dumb" had passed 350,000 views, roughly eight times what a TechLinked episode usually collects on its first day. The title keeps its target to itself. The first chapter does not: a White House executive order on artificial intelligence, filed in the tags under superintelligence and Trump AI regulation.
The comment section turned it into a game of names. Viewers pitch their own labels for the technology, one borrows the naming style of a Nintendo console, and several marvel at how short the order is, shorter, one says, than any contract they have ever signed. Others caught a nod to the philosopher Slavoj Žižek that they did not expect from a tech news show.
Longtime watchers noticed something smaller too: the Quick Bits segment now starts before the sponsor slot. That kind of detail only regulars spot, and they are making jokes about it.
The rest of the episode is a full menu. Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra arrives alongside Nvidia's RTX Spark. Paramount Skydance, the company run by David Ellison, closes its deal for Warner Bros. Discovery. In the quick round, states sue TP-Link, Google opens its SynthID detector to the public, Finland halts Google data centers, and a Weizmann Institute system called Brain-IT reconstructs what a person sees. The last item, Amazon's "About you" profile, has viewers comparing the hobbies Amazon has wrongly assigned them.
It is the second episode this week to land this big, after the plainly titled "PLEASE HELP US", which led on Chinese DDR5 memory and a used CPU that came with a Valorant ban.
