Toni and Ryan question parking's "last chance" to pay

A Toni's Tech Tips shortcut gives Ryan his vindication, while viewers explain why they still stop at the pay station.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 88,025 views a day, 6.8 times a normal first day on this channel (12,983).

Ryan feels vindicated. Toni Lodge has discovered that drivers can pay at the exit barrier rather than stopping at the machine inside the parking garage, and her co-host treats it as the answer to a long-running irritation.

In the podcast excerpt, Ryan Jon describes his preferred departure: drive to the barrier, tap a phone and go home. Toni cues Jules to play the Toni's Tech Tips jingle, turning an everyday parking discovery into a formal little announcement. Ryan then questions signs presenting the indoor machine as the last chance to pay.

The Short has drawn roughly 82,000 views in twenty hours, already more than six times the channel's usual full-day Shorts audience. Its comment section is also more than four times as busy as a typical first day.

But the conversation beneath it is less about saving a walk than avoiding a queue. Viewers recount card readers failing at the barrier, worries about blocking cars behind them and the possibility of crossing into a higher parking rate before reaching the exit. Others describe different payment arrangements where they live.

Toni's shortcut gives Ryan a celebratory moment. The replies give the humble pay station several reasons to stay in people's routines.

What viewers say

  • Two reasons why I never do:
1 - I have an irrational dread of my card being declined and blocking the exit while I sort it out
2 - That extra 2 minutes I took walking to my car and driving to the exit might be the difference between me paying £1.50 for an hour, or £2.50 for "2 hours"
  • American confused here. We get tickets and you put the ticket in at the end and then you pay. Don’t you always have to go past the stations?? If you go somewhere like a hospital or dr office they’ll validate your parking usually so then you get a second ticket that acts as payment.

  • I pay at the pay station instead of the exit because on more than one occasion the card reader was broken and then there was a line of cars behind me and I couldn't reverse to go pay.

  • No it sucks because what if your card doesn't work at the machine?

It's never happened to me but what if it did?

  • in my area of the USA, you usually get your parking validated when you go to a store or a restaurant with a parking garage and then parking is either free or much cheaper than the flat rate

  • I lived in China for a while and a camera scanned your license plate and you pay via app (wechat I think)
