Total War's Shogun 2 overview draws a crowd fifteen years on

A game first released in 2011 opened at nearly twelve times the channel's usual first day, with a busy comment section to match.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 204,797 views a day, 12 times a normal first day on this channel (17,513).

Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Complete Edition - Game Overview

Total War posted a game overview for "Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Complete Edition", and fourteen hours later it had passed 159,000 views. That puts it on course for a first day nearly twelve times what a new upload on the official channel usually gets.

The timing makes the start stand out more. The channel as a whole is drawing fewer views than usual. So are several other publisher channels around it, including Forza, Diablo and Bungie. The comments add something too: there is roughly one for every four likes, a lively ratio for a trailer-style video.

The game itself is no newcomer. Shogun 2, made by Creative Assembly, came out in 2011 and returned the series to its roots in feudal Japan. It is set in the Sengoku period, when rival clans fought over a divided country and the title of shogun. The upload gives no reason why an overview of a game this old arrived now, but it is the one pulling the channel's numbers up.
