AgentJayZ answers the mystery of the fan that isn't there
"My Favorite Question" explains why not every jet engine has a fan at the front.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
My Favorite Question
Why isn't it spinning? AgentJayZ's most watched upload of the week answers a recurring question with a useful correction: the engine in front of him doesn't have a fan. Not every jet engine is a turbofan, as he explains in "My Favorite Question."
The distinction has drawn about 16,000 views, and the comments bring some workshop humor of their own. One longtime viewer remembers his warning that a moving strut means a bad day. Others discuss inlet guide vanes, while one asks whether a J79 could produce the Starfighter's distinctive howl on a test stand.
Four uploads arrived, with Friday supplying both the fan explanation and "Is an Engine Beyond Economical Repair." The latter considers the decision between restoring an engine to new condition and scrapping it. It had the larger first-day audience, but "My Favorite Question" now has the larger total and the strongest daily momentum. The other two uploads address strong opinions and people who aren't enthusiasts, keeping the week's conversation close to the channel's turbine-centered world.
Across the library, views rose by roughly 67,000 over the week, while subscribers stayed unchanged. Today's viewing is nearly four times the channel's usual daily pace. Among nearby aviation channels, FarFlight had a substantial week and gained subscribers; Experimental Aircraft Channel, close to AgentJayZ in size, also had unchanged subscribers.
Just outside the week's uploads, "Testing a GE J79 With Afterburner" remains another active draw: a newly rebuilt supersonic-fighter engine put through its test at the S&S / Maddex test cell. Alongside the questions about stationary parts and repair economics, there's room for the machinery to do its noisy work.
