Bacon overload and pumpkin spice hit Chef Tyler's grilled cheese

Five new uploads include a celebratory lunch marking seven million subscribers and a food test for his mom.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Is this enough bacon? Is this enough bacon?

How much bacon belongs in a grilled cheese? Chef Tyler made that an open-ended question in "Is this enough bacon?", the week's most-watched new upload, with about 5.3 million views. The video is a sponsored brand-ambassador segment, with a sandwich-stuffing premise that gave viewers plenty to calculate.

Some comments treat Tyler's cooking as a math word problem. Others debate how much of the bacon used in the bread actually ends up in the finished sandwich. The recurring joke is that the grilled cheese has become an accessory to the bacon, rather than the other way around.

His other new grilled cheese takes a different ingredient literally: "I made a REAL PUMPKIN SPICE grilled cheese" uses pumpkin and spice, according to its description. Also a sponsored ambassador segment, it is currently drawing views faster than any other upload on the channel. The bacon sandwich remains busy, while the previous week's "$3 Hamburger vs $83 Hamburger" supplies another substantial stream of viewing.

There was room beyond sandwiches, too. "Tricking my mom into eating foods she DOESN'T LIKE" sets up a test involving three disliked foods, with Tyler joking in the description about risking his favorite-child status. And "$700 Lunch (7 MILLION SUBS CELEBRATION!)" gives his subscriber milestone its own meal.

The channel added about 80,000 subscribers over the week, with daily views running slightly above their usual pace. Nearby food channels are having varied days: Bon Appétit's viewing is more than double its usual daily level, while Andy Cooks is quieter than usual. Tyler's week, meanwhile, has made the grilled cheese a vehicle for both bacon excess and a pumpkin-spice experiment.

  • There were not 59 pieces in one sandwich. He made the whole bread with 44 pieces, and he cut two slices, there are probably 10 more slices that can be cut from the bread. So approximately it's around 4 pieces per slice. Which means the sandwich contains 25 pieces at most
