Isaias approaches the Southeast as a Category 3 hurricane
FOX 26 Houston's forecast drew an unusually large early audience before a later update reported a weaker storm at Florida landfall.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 35,140 views a day, 25 times a normal first day on this channel (1,381).
Hurricane Isaias nears landfall as Category 3
Meteorologist Remeisha Shade's Friday afternoon forecast caught Hurricane Isaias before landfall, with the storm approaching the southeastern United States at Category 3 strength. That update became a standout upload for FOX 26 Houston, even while the station's overall daily views were slightly below their usual pace.
“Hurricane Isaias nears landfall as Category 3” drew about 14,000 views in its first seven hours, a much faster start than the channel usually sees for a regular-length report. The attention was concentrated on the forecast rather than reflecting a channel-wide surge.
The station's later coverage moved the story forward. In her Friday night update, Shade reported that Isaias had made landfall on the Florida Panhandle as a Category 2 hurricane and had already weakened to Category 1. That follow-up shifted the focus from the approaching storm to its changing strength and the hurricane forecast for the weekend.
