Ilhan Omar's attorney asks the Justice Department to return her phone
FOX 9's report pairs the request with Tom Homan's "strong case" remark and a statement of support from Barack Obama; Omar has not been charged with a crime.

Rep. Ilhan Omar investigation: attorney seeks return of property seized from D.C. home
A phone is among the belongings Rep. Ilhan Omar's attorney wants back. FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul reports that her lawyer has written to the Justice Department asking for the return of property seized from her Washington, D.C., home.
According to the report, Homeland Security Investigations carried out a judicially authorized search of the home. The attorney's letter says there is "no legitimate basis for any suggestion that she has violated any law concerning her citizenship status." The station says the investigation reportedly includes her immigration paperwork and finances. Omar has not been charged with a crime.
The report opens with Tom Homan on Fox News. "I've been told they have a strong case, and we'll let the evidence lead where it leads," he says. That is his account of what he has been told, not an announcement of charges. A statement from Barack Obama follows, arguing that the government cannot selectively target people because of their political beliefs.
Hamline University professor David Schultz returns from the station's earlier coverage with questions of his own. The events under scrutiny date back 27 years, he notes. "Do statute of limitations apply? And why within 60 days of an election?"
The Short drew nearly 430,000 views in its first seven hours. Its comment section filled far faster than a usual first day, much of it debating accountability and the timing of the case. On the same day, FOX 9's report on the FBI and ATF joining a Twin Cities crackdown on Somali gang violence also started well ahead of the station's usual pace.
