Sidney Crosby, Gavin McKenna and a wild first NHL week on Hockey Psychology

A full week-one recap opened the season, then two player videos followed, one on the Penguins captain and one on the most talked-about prospect in hockey.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Sidney Crosby is still the GOAT…Sidney Crosby is still the GOAT…

Hockey Psychology came back with the season. Three uploads went up as the NHL got under way, and together they pushed the channel well past its usual daily pace, close to a million views over seven days and about 2,000 new subscribers.

First came "The NHL Season is off to a WILD Start…", a full recap of the opening week. It had the biggest first day of the three, and its comment section reads like a league-wide roll call. Canucks fans are delighted that Elias Pettersson has been leading the league in hits while also putting up points, Sharks fans are celebrating a 2-0 start (with a note about holding third-period leads), and Rangers fans joke about Igor Shesterkin's scoring. A few newcomers say it is their first season following the NHL closely, including one from Sheffield who found hockey through the Steelers. Several viewers quote favorite lines from the narration, among them the verdict that goaltending and defense were "clearly optional."

The recap opened biggest, but a day later the channel turned to Sidney Crosby with "Sidney Crosby is still the GOAT…", and that is the video with the momentum now. Its description leaves the debate open with a blank: top ___ player of all time? Crosby, who captained Pittsburgh to three Stanley Cups, makes a natural season-opening subject, and the video keeps gathering views faster than anything else on the shelf.

Then came "Gavin McKenna Is NASTY…", about the prospect who went first overall in the 2026 NHL Draft. It has made a quick start, and its description asks the obvious question: how many points does he put up this season?

Among the American sports creators nearest its size, BigBucketTony is having the huge week by views, while Pitching Ninja is running ahead of its usual pace with baseball's October. Hockey Psychology sits in the middle of that group, with a season of material still in front of it.

  • Elias Pettersson leading the league in hits off of back to back 8 hit performances while simultaneously having 5 points through 3 games and being a strong defensive presence. Also shoutout to Filip Hronek for 14 blocked shots through 3 games and some good offensive production on top of that
  • best line: "Goaltending and defence were clearly optional."

  • 11:18 it’s CRAZY how fast vasy gets across here even tho he let in the goal. Considering he was so off from the shot, it’s insane than he gets across by the time it’s in the net. That’s why he won the Vezina!

  • 17 goals in 3 games, 2-1-0 record, oh yeah the Vancouver rebuild is going... somewhere!
  • Penguins vs Canadiens was a hell of a good show.
