Pixar turns off the dialogue for Cars' anniversary drive

A sound-only Cars upload joins a Coco storyboard comparison in a two-video week focused on filmmaking craft.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Pixar gives Lightning McQueen's world a different kind of close-up in "Pixar's CARS: ASMR | Cars 20th Anniversary 🏎️": no music, no dialogue, just the sound work of Pixar and Skywalker Sound. For a movie built around talking vehicles, taking the talking away is a neat way to draw attention to everything else you hear.

The anniversary upload has drawn about 20,000 views. The week's most-watched release, though, is "Pixar's Coco from Storyboard to Final Animation...", a brief split-screen look at Miguel entering Ernesto de la Cruz's mansion. Rough drawings sit above the finished animation as Miguel descends the stairs with his guitar, passes the skeleton guests and catches Ernesto's attention. The staging is recognizable before the polished surfaces arrive.

Some commenters are already looking beyond that scene to a Coco sequel, while another questions whether the original needs one. The clip itself stays firmly with the craft of the first film.

Across the channel, the artist-made "Fruit & Nut", directed by Rej Bourdages and Tony Maki, carries the most daily momentum among the active titles, followed by the longer Coco storyboard comparison and the new Cars soundscape.

Pixar added nearly five million views over the week, with subscribers unchanged and its current daily viewing somewhat below its usual pace. Nearby, Disney and Warner Bros. Entertainment are drawing above-usual daily audiences. Pixar's own week is smaller and more workshop-minded: drawings, finished frames and the sounds usually tucked beneath the conversation.
