Pixar's animation glitches give Big Baby a horror makeover

Distorted characters from Toy Story 3, Soul and Up reveal what happens when the computer doesn't deliver the intended image.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 165,903 views a day, 15 times a normal first day on this channel (11,227).

Big Baby is unsettling enough when everything works. Pixar's new Short follows a finished Toy Story 3 scene with a broken render that turns the character into a tangle of geometric spikes.

The studio is showing the mistakes, not announcing a horror movie. In "The image we wanted vs. the image the computer gave us 😳", polished film clips sit beside technical failures: a soul figure surrounded by detached eyeballs, Dug washed in inverted blue lighting, and Carl Fredricksen with an extremely distorted face. This is a promotional short for the films, built around a glimpse of animation going wrong.

It has drawn more than 110,000 views in 12 hours, with its estimated first-day pace roughly fifteen times Pixar's usual start for Shorts. That burst stands apart from the channel's overall daily viewing, which is below its usual level.

The comments pick up on the contrast between familiar characters and their broken versions. Some viewers argue that Toy Story 3 already has enough horror in it; others are surprised that the official Pixar account is posting these images at all.

After recent uploads exploring Coco's storyboards and the sound worlds of Cars and Soul, Pixar has opened another window into filmmaking: the version nobody intended to put on screen.
