Surface Laptop Ultra arrives with a magnetic USB-C charger
Microsoft's introduction film for its new laptop drew close to 350,000 views in two days, far more than the follow-up that explains the charging trick.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 206,859 views a day, 14 times a normal day (15,075).
Surface Laptop Ultra is the name, and Microsoft's Surface channel has spent two days putting it in front of people. The first video, "Surface Laptop Ultra | Stepping into the future," went up on Wednesday and was close to 350,000 views by Friday. That is more than the channel's other recent uploads have gathered between them, and it carried the whole channel far past its usual pace.
The second video, posted a day later, gets specific. Its title bills the feature as the "World's First Built-In Magnetic USB-C Charging," and its description keeps the pitch to a single line about charging like never before. Magnets are not new to the family: Surface Connect, the snap-on port that has charged Surface devices since the Surface Pro 3 in 2014, has always clicked into place. What the title promises is that same click through USB-C. So far that explainer has had a much quieter start, at around 12,000 views.
The Ultra follows a busy few weeks for the channel. In late September it introduced a new Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch with Snapdragon X2 Plus chips, with a remix by @bolothedj and a film about getting work done in tablet mode. The channel's about line reads "The next era of Surface starts here," and the Ultra film is the one doing most of the work on that promise.
