Two Hamilton house explosions, and a used car that had been a rental
Pat Foran's consumer report on an Ontario buyer who did not know her car's past drew the most viewers among CP24's fifteen uploads.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Two houses explode in Hamilton
Among the local news stations nearest its size, CP24 gathered the second-most views over the week, with only NBCLA, in the middle of a very big stretch, clearly ahead. That came on a slightly slower pace than the Toronto channel usually keeps, and the subscriber count did not move.
Fifteen uploads went up, and Thursday supplied most of the story. Two separate house fires in Hamilton, both involving suspected explosions, sent three people to hospital, one in critical condition. CP24 covered it from several angles. The short report "Two houses explode in Hamilton" is the video moving fastest on the channel right now, and a neighbour's security camera clip shows debris thrown clear across the street. The same morning brought news from Stelco, where layoff notices began going out to roughly 330 Hamilton workers.
The most watched new upload was quieter. In "Ontario woman shocked after purchasing rental car without knowing," Pat Foran explains that Ontario sellers must say when a vehicle has been used as a rental. The comments turned into a close reading of the contract. Several viewers point to the words "previous daily rental" printed just above her initials, and a few add their own stories, including one driver who kept a former rental Passat for ten years.
The archive also had a moment. A 1990 CFTO report on stuntman Roy Anderson jumping a 21-foot gap between two Toronto buildings is among the channel's fastest videos. City council approved that stunt only after he secured $3 million in insurance.

My last car (2.5 year old Passat) had been a rental car. I kept it for 10 years. It was a great car.
