New body-camera footage of Luigi Mangione's Altoona arrest finds FOX 29's audience

The Philadelphia station's compilation follows officers from the moment they suspect who he is to the search of his belongings, and the comments keep returning to a Christmas song in the background.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 39,446 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (3,680).

What did the officers in Altoona see and say that day? FOX 29 Philadelphia gathered the newly released body-camera video into one compilation, and nine hours after it went up it had passed 20,000 views. A regular video on the station usually ends its whole first day with a few thousand.

The footage is described plainly in the station's own words. Officers react as they learn that the man in front of them is likely the person sought in the killing of Brian Thompson. Luigi Mangione eats hash browns while police ask about his ties to New York and New Jersey. Later an officer goes through his belongings and smiles as she pulls out a gun cartridge. The title borrows a profane line from the footage itself, and the tags simply call it raw video.

The comment section moved even faster than the views: in nine hours it collected about five times the comments a regular FOX 29 video gathers in a full day. Many viewers point to the same detail, the holiday song "I'll Be Home for Christmas" playing in the background during the arrest. Others ask about a line on a list of his that mentions an "intel check," and about a phone call an officer ends before sending a picture of his ID.

The rest of the station's day stayed local, with a police-involved shooting in Mayfair and the Eagles adjusting their tailgating rules ahead of the Rams game.
