T.J. Hockenson slides short of the end zone, and the Vikings run out the clock

Kevin O'Connell called the tight end's last catch in the 15-10 win over Miami the 'ultimate selfless play,' one of fifteen uploads in a heavy news week for FOX 9.

"Kevin O'Connell calls T.J. Hockenson catch 'ultimate selfless play'" is the kind of postgame clip that only makes sense if you watched the ending. With the Vikings holding on against the Miami Dolphins at U.S. Bank Stadium, Hockenson made his final catch and slid down instead of running in for a touchdown, so Minnesota could kneel out the clock and keep the 15-10 win. The coach's praise went up within hours of the final whistle. Kyler Murray followed with his own press conference, promising after a slow start and a stronger second half that "that door will get kicked down soon."

The rest of the week was harder news. Two teens, neither of them students at either school, were hurt in a shooting at Eden Prairie High School's homecoming game, and the dance was canceled. A follow-up report from Mike Manzoni says police call the shooting gang-related. Michele Tafoya, the former NBC sideline reporter now running for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota, discussed it on FOX 9 Morning News, and that interview is moving faster than anything else on the channel. The most watched upload of the week was a report on the search for a medical jet that went down off Nantucket.

All told, the channel added about three and a half million views, third among the local news stations of its size, though it ran well below its usual daily pace. FOX 5 New York, by contrast, was running at close to twice its normal pace.
