Godzilla Minus Zero threatens Japan's hard-won peace
TOHO's official Godzilla channel has an unusually busy day as the second trailer approaches five million views and Takashi Yamazaki joins a lightning round.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 2,229,004 views a day, 12 times a normal day (187,364).
Godzilla Minus Zero's second trailer has reached nearly five million views, three days after posting. Alongside it, TOHO's official Godzilla channel is having a much busier day than usual, with daily views running at almost twelve times their typical level.
The darker trailer we covered here earlier remains the largest recent upload by a wide margin. Its premise gives Japan little breathing room: two years after Godzilla's devastation, the country has struggled to recover and reclaim everyday life, only for another threat to interrupt that fragile peace.
Takashi Yamazaki, who wrote, directed and led the visual effects on Godzilla Minus One, returns in those roles for Minus Zero. The channel has also posted a new lightning round with him, following an earlier upload about making the film for IMAX. The publicity offers room for a smaller, less ominous attraction too: a closer look at the film's popcorn bucket has drawn hundreds of thousands of views.
The theatrical date is November 6, with Godzilla Day IMAX early access on November 3. Between the disaster trailer, the director appearances and the popcorn bucket, TOHO is covering both the movie and the rituals of going to see it.
