Clayface brings its body horror aboard a turbulent flight
Warner Bros.' new promotional clip strands Tom Rhys Harries' Matt Hagen in an airplane lavatory with a problem far worse than turbulence.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 172,020 views a day, 21 times a normal first day on this channel (8,333).
Clayface | The Plane
The flight attendant needs him back in his seat. Inside the lavatory, Matt Hagen is staring into a mirror, discovering that the skin around his eyes has sealed them shut.
That is the setup for "Clayface | The Plane," a promotional scene clip that trades superhero spectacle for confined-space horror. As the cabin shakes and the knocking continues, Matt searches his travel kit for something that might help. A pair of grooming scissors makes the situation considerably harder to watch.
The Short drew about 68,000 views in six hours, already well beyond Warner Bros.' usual full-day audience for the format. Its comment section has also passed the channel's ordinary first-day activity by a wide margin.
Viewers are discussing the clay makeup, questioning just how much trouble the plane itself is in, and debating whether this particular scene should have been saved for the theater. One recurring reference is Matt's earlier animated incarnation in Batman: The Animated Series, remembered here as a tragic villain rather than simply a monster.
Harries plays the actor whose attempt to repair his disfigured face sends him toward transformation and revenge. James Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. The clip makes that horror pedigree tangible: an ordinary request from outside the door becomes unbearable pressure on the person inside.
Another Warner Bros. Short, the "clayday" countdown, is also drawing an unusually strong opening. But the airplane scene supplies something the release reminders cannot: an extended look at what this version of Clayface does to Matt.

@EditorCultRevivalSee it on YouTubeI’m more concerned about what’s going with the plane. Like is it crashing, bags were literally falling out of the compartments.
@SpideyDude13See it on YouTubeThis is gonna be grotesquely good - Clayface has always been a favorite tragic villain to me. Especially having seen the origin/episode in BTAS when I was younger
