Georgia faces Hurricane Isaias emergency | FOX 5 News
Hurricane Isaias is still out over the Gulf, but four of FOX 5 Atlanta's newest reports are already about it. Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency, and the station followed the storm through Thursday and Friday. In the first reports Isaias was a Category 2, expected to strengthen to a Category 3 before landfall near the Alabama-Florida line. For Georgia, the forecast in the reports is heavy rain, flash flooding, possible tornadoes and wind gusts near 50 mph from Friday night. The latest report moves from the forecast to preparation: road crews clearing fallen trees, Cobb County workers clearing storm drains and shelters opening in Carroll County.
The week's most watched upload came from closer to home. In five hours, about 10,000 people watched the report on the South Fulton community mourning Kevin Smith, an engineering teacher at Westlake High School who was killed at a home on Head Road. His family and his students remember him in the report.
The station posted 15 videos over the week, but the channel ran a little below its usual pace, and its subscriber count did not move from 718,000. Among the local stations closest to it in size, NBC 6 South Florida and CBS Miami had busy weeks, and FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul ran well above its usual daily views. FOX 5 Washington DC and WUSA9 had quieter weeks, closer to Atlanta's.
