Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan's execution to be livestreamed; survivors react | FOX 7 Austin
FOX 7 Austin's upload week stretched from a memorial in Killeen to questions about the Cowboys and Texans, with local politics and Gulf hurricane preparations in between. The station's Fort Hood follow-up drew the largest audience, reaching about 72,000 views, and remains its strongest daily draw.
Reporter Dominique Leh speaks with shooting survivor Julia Wilson about the scheduled execution of Nidal Hasan and what justice should include beyond that sentence. Wilson calls for the attack to be classified as domestic terrorism and for equal benefits for civilian victims. Military justice instructor Eugene Fidell adds a separate consideration: legal appeals could delay the execution for years. The report says the Pentagon intends to livestream it.
The next-largest new audiences went to coverage of Travis County Democrats' block walk supporting James Talarico and a report on ICE agents shooting a man in New York. Those uploads also sit behind the Fort Hood report among the channel's busiest videos right now.
Across its library, FOX 7 Austin added just over a million views during the week and gained subscribers. Its weekly viewing total was close to WPBF 25 News's, while NBC10 Philadelphia and CBS Pittsburgh each had substantially larger viewing weeks.
The Sports Office supplied a different kind of discussion. Julian Martinez and Alec Nolan examined responsibility for Dallas's loss to Tampa Bay, Houston's search for its first win against Tennessee, and the Texas-Oklahoma matchup. Between breaking-news reports, the station made room for the football questions its Central Texas audience knows well.
