Katie Zacharia opens her first White House briefing with thanks to President Trump. Then she spends several minutes on the administration's message: rallies in places like Youngstown, Ohio, manufacturing investment, energy and border security. "Energy security is national security," she says.
The question in the video's title arrives about eleven minutes in. Alina Shirazi asks about reports concerning Kimberly Guilfoyle, the ambassador to Greece, and Zacharia answers directly: "We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign." She follows it with a line of praise, calling Guilfoyle "a wonderful asset to the team," and the briefing moves on.
Not every answer is that firm. Peter Doocy of Fox News asks whether her job extends to helping Republicans in close midterm races. He then asks whether the United States has stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, and she replies, "I'll have to get back to you on that." Shirazi's last question is personal, about moving to Washington with four children. "I adore my family," Zacharia says, before cutting the session short to catch Marine One with the president for a trip to Alaska. The station's live stream of that Alaska rally went up the next day.
FOX 7 Austin usually covers Central Texas: local crime, Longhorns football, state politics. Its regular videos tend to open with a few hundred views. This one reached about 33,000 in fourteen hours. That was more than double the views of the station's Six Flags roller coaster report, posted the same day. The comments stand out even more. They passed 320, on a channel whose regular uploads normally get almost none on their first day. Much of the talk is about how a first-time press secretary handles the podium. Many viewers mention her nerves and her reliance on prepared remarks, and some measure her against the press secretaries who came before her.
