Ramayana's English trailer has Yash's Ravana demanding every head bow

The dubbed preview drew thousands of comments in its first hours, many of them about the music and the man on the golden throne.

"Before me, every head will bow!" Ravana announces from a golden throne, and Ramayana's English-dubbed trailer answers with a mortal holding a bow. Rotten Tomatoes Trailers posted the preview for Nitesh Tiwari's epic, and in 15 hours it passed nearly 1.5 million views, a very different start from the trailers this channel usually shares. The channel carries the studio's trailer; it did not make the film.

The comments say even more. A typical trailer here gets about a dozen on its first day. This one drew thousands. Many come from India, with others from Bangladesh and Myanmar. The name that keeps coming up is Hans Zimmer, who is scoring the film with A.R. Rahman. Others pick out the English rap under the footage, or Yash, the K.G.F. star, as Ravana. One viewer works out that if this first part stops before Ram marches on Lanka, the second will be the chaotic one.

The trailer opens on a barefoot figure crossing a barren landscape, with the narrator setting the story "before history was written." Volcanic darkness brings in Ravana, who cuts through battlefields before he takes the throne. Ranbir Kapoor's Ram follows with archery across rugged country. Sai Pallavi's Sita appears briefly in rituals and festivities. On-screen text credits visual artists from Dune and Interstellar, and the final rush shows Ravana fighting on with spears lodged in his chest.

A shorter Ramayana cut went up on the channel the same day and drew far fewer views. The long English trailer is the one people stopped for. It sets a November 5 theatrical date, with Ravi Dubey and Sunny Deol also in the cast.
